The golf course was in great shape and the weather kind to the players. During the morning a representative from Headway assisted in the selling of raffle tickets and gave first-hand information about the work done nationally by the Charity. The raffle alone raised £631 pounds and due to the generous prize donations from supporters, past Captains and Presidents all proceeds will go to the Charity. On the course, Spencer our Assistant Professional gave help to teams who entered the target golf Competition at the 10th hole. 5 teams equalled a score of 5, the top team, was identified through a card draw winning a fourball donated by Notts Golf Club ( Hollinwell). The 10th proved a tough challenge on the day but it was tempered by delicious strawberries donated by John Busby and homemade shortbreads donated by Jane Mansfield all served by volunteer Lady Members.
Off the course, if you were feeling brave, a Caricaturist provided his services and again for a donation to the Charity you could have a 4 minute ‘Head’ sketch.
Whilst all this was happening our bar and catering staff prepared for the evening. A representative, John McFaden, from the Leicestershire and Rutland Branch of Headway attended as a guest speaker. John told us about the rehabilitation work the local branch offers for people with a head Injury and to their families. Following the day we have heard from John who felt both overwhelmed and grateful for the enthusiasm and the generosity to the Charity.
We enjoyed an excellent meal, good company and post dinner entertainment was provided by Comedian Nick Page. The finale to the whole day was the Charity Auction. Ably presided over by club member Tony Iddon, who not only acted as the auctioneer but was responsible for obtaining the numerous Formula One auction items. These were unique purchase opportunities and raised significant funds along with other auction items. Although the final figure has not yet been confirmed, promises add up to approximately £3500. This is a staggering amount and thanks does not seem sufficient to express our gratitude to all the providers and purchasers who made this possible. If you are still to pay this can be done through the office
One item was not auctioned on the day. A four ball at Kingsbarns Golf Links has been kindly donated by David Sephton. This, to be used between March and October 2018. Full details are on the Clubhouse notice board. If you are interested in submitting a sealed bid please hand to the office or Captains. You have until the end of September to make this incredible opportunity a reality.
We are sincerely grateful to the 25 teams who entered the Captains Charity Day 4 Ball AMAM and to all the sponsors, supporters, volunteers and staff who contributed to a great day of entertainment and golf. You have through your generosity significantly supported our Charity
